The Lintel

Eliezer carved a pomegranate over his door because a pomegranate holds hundreds of seeds in one tough little outside, and he wanted everyone who walked under it to walk under a sign that said there’s more inside than shows.

Miriam carved a second one, lopsided, with a borrowed knife, on a door in the lower city — and kept a lamp lit behind it for people who were out on the dangerous roads.

This is a wall of lintels. Carve one. Put a name on it: someone you are keeping the lamp lit for, someone you are keeping the door open for, someone you have been saying a blessing over into a silence that hasn’t answered yet.

First names only. No arguments. Just the blessing.

Lintels are checked before they appear — usually within a day. We never publish surnames, locations or contact details. How we look after this

The wall

The wall is waiting for its first names.

Approved lintels will appear here once the moderated wall is connected. Anyone can light a lamp on any name — it is the only other thing you can do here.

Every lintel is read by a person before it appears. We publish first names only. We remove anything that names a third party in a way that could harm them, anything commercial, and anything that turns the wall into an argument. If you want yours taken down, write to us and it will be gone the same day. This wall exists for one purpose: to be a place where a name can be said out loud and kept.
